Police in Mbarara has mounted a search for a youth for allegedly being gay, contrary to Ugandan laws.

George Ahirwe, in his 30s is now believed to have escaped and currently in the US after being released on bail from Mbarara police over the above alleged crime.T

TheSpy Uganda has got information that Ahirwe was arrested and charged with being a gay on November 25, 2017 on CRN reference No 2354/2017 and released on bond on December 3 from Rwizi Region Mbarara police station but has since gone aloof!

When asked for a comment, a female relative to Ahirwe told our reporter that on July 14 they learnt of his being bonded but have no clue of his whereabouts now.

Ahirwe is said to have been living at Katete Mbarara before his alleged arrest.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons face legal challenges in Uganda because the acts are illegal and punishable by law.

The Uganda Anti- Homosexuality Act, 2014 was passed on 17 December 2013 with a punishment of life imprisonment for “aggravated homosexuality”.

The law brought Uganda into international spotlight, and caused international outrage, with many  International governments cutting aide to Uganda.
