Police in Mukono District have arrested two suspects in connection with the vandalism of electricity infrastructure at Azam Construction Company Limited in Buligobe Village, Namawojolo Parish, Nama Sub-county.

The suspects, identified as Mzee Asheraf and Mubiru Geoffrey, were apprehended following a swift and coordinated response by the Uganda Police Force after a report was filed on February 24, 2026, at approximately 8:00 a.m.

According to preliminary findings, a security guard at the construction site discovered that electric cables had been cut from a power pole and immediately alerted authorities, requesting canine support to aid in tracking the perpetrators.

The Mukono Canine Unit, working alongside investigators from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), responded promptly to the scene. Upon assessment, officers determined that the area was conducive for canine tracking operations.

Police dog “Judge” successfully picked up a human scent at the crime scene and tracked it for nearly 300 meters, leading officers directly to the residence of the suspects. A subsequent search of the premises yielded critical evidence, including tools believed to have been used to cut the electric cables, shoes containing soil samples consistent with those from the scene, and other exhibits linking the suspects to the alleged act of vandalism.
Authorities praised the efficiency of the canine unit and the seamless collaboration between investigative teams, noting that such swift action is crucial in combating infrastructure vandalism, which disrupts services and causes financial losses.

The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue. Police have reiterated their commitment to protecting public and private infrastructure and urged members of the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
