The pick of matches from the Premier League for this coming weekend is the classic North London derby between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.

The mutual enmity runs deep between these two teams and their contrasting fortunes so far this season will make the clash all the more intriguing: while Spurs look like potential title contenders under Jose Mourinho, the Gunners are struggling to find their usual attacking rhythm under Mikel Arteta.

The Spanish tactician has made his side far more solid in defence, but it appears to have come at the expense of threat and precision at the other end of the field.

“I think we’ve been working really good defensively it's just that flair, creativity and monument sometimes that the players need to make the last action which is the most difficult thing in football,” explained Arteta.

“It’s not that you’re not creating the chances, we have to create more and have we have to be more consistent in the final third with the number of things we finish and how we finish them. It will come and the reality is that we have not had much continuity in the players for various reasons which is very important to get the understanding right with them.”

This round of matches will also feature a potential thriller between Chelsea and Leeds United at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues looking to continue their free-scoring form while the Whites will hope their pressing and aggression can give them an edge.

“The first port of call this year was to close the gap on Manchester City and Liverpool, who have set different levels of consistency through a season,” said Chelsea boss Frank Lampard. “We are improving but we cannot get carried away. We have to try to reach those levels but I’m happy with where we’re at right now.”

SuperSport is the only place to get English commentary from the legendary La Liga. The top game from Spain’s top flight this weekend sees Sevilla host Real Madrid at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, with two teams which have underperformed so far this season under pressure to claim three points and keep alive their campaign ambitions.

Los Blancos have won their last three La Liga matches against Los Nervionenses, but an away game in Andalusia is never easy and Real manager Zinedine Zidane believes his side will need to be sharp and focused.

The Frenchman also argued that the capital giants are unlucky not to have more points on the board: “I think we deserved more, considering what we did. I'm upset for the players because of the effort they gave. I keep looking forward. You continue with what you are doing and I with my work.”

Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui, meanwhile, knows that only hard work will see his team improve: “In La Liga and in the competitions we are in, you can win without suffering. In front, there is usually a good team looking for the opposite. We have recovered from important blows and the team has had the character to rebuild itself.”

Elsewhere, Barcelona will look to break a run of three winless away games in La Liga when they face Cadiz at Estadio Ramon de Carranza, while Atletico Madrid will be confident of another three-point haul when they welcome Real Valladolid to Estadio Wanda Metropolitano.

Los Rojiblancos manager Diego Simeone has played down suggestions that his side are clear favourites for the title: “The most important things we value about the growth of footballers from last season to this one is being seen. We are working better on the pitch, we are being more complicit to share what the team needs and we see it.”

The undoubted headline clash out of Italy this weekend is the Turin derby – ‘Derby della Mole’ – between Juventus and Torino at the Allianz Stadium. Named after the Mole Antonelliana, a major a landmark in the city and the architectural symbol of the Piedmontese capital, this derby is one of Serie A’s oldest and grandest rivalries.

It also takes on special significance this season as Juve are struggling to assert the usual dominance they have enjoyed in Italian football in the past decade or so, while Torino’s poor start to the season means they are currently in a relegation scrap and looking to rise away from the danger zone as soon as they can manage.

Juve’s French midfielder Adrian Rabiot is a growing influence on the Bianconeri under manager Andrea Pirlo, who believes the 25-year-old is a “complete player” but still has room to become even better.

“I have rarely seen someone so strong both physically and technically," Pirlo explained. “He doesn’t even know the potential for improvement he can have, and we work on the mental side of things to make him understand that he is a champion. He is improving game after game.”

Elsewhere in Italy this weekend, the clash of Roma and Sassuolo in the ‘Eternal City’ promises to be one for football purists to enjoy, with Giallorossi manager Paulo Fonseca emphasising the confidence his side is enjoying after a strong run of form, while also insisting that his future with the club (his contract expires at the end of the season) will be sorted out in due course.

“I am not concerned, as I am concentrated only on the matches. I am satisfied because the team is playing well and the important thing is that Roma win and repeat this kind of performance,” said the Portuguese.
