Premier Rugunda To Grace ICT 2019 Innovation Awards

Kampala: The ministry of Information Communications Technology (ICT)  has announced the date for the 2019 ICT Innovations Awards.

According to ICT and National guidance minister Frank Kagigyi Tumwebaze,the host of this year’s 2nd ICT awards, they will be held on Wednesday 26 June, 2019 and Prime Minister ndugu Dr.Ruhakana Rugunda is the Chief Guest.

While announcing this year’s event, Minister Tumwebaze wrote on his Twitter handle thus; “The Rt Hon Prime minister Ruhakana Rugunda will be our Chief Guest on  26th Jun 2019 on the award ceremony of the ICT innovations to be supported under @Niisp this year. @MoICT_Ug @Tybisa.” The annual Awards which are organised by the Ministry of ICT under the National ICT Initiatives Support Programme (NIIP), are aimed at singling out and recognizing Ugandans who have come up with ICT innovations aimed at improving technology usage and consumption in Uganda. According to Minister Tumwebaze, individuals who will receive awards this year are part of 60 new ICT innovations by Ugandans.

Wulira is a simple but sophisticated android mobile application that is used to assess hearing loss in at-risk patients and provide immediate reporting on results.

6th Sense

This innovation is a Sign Language to Speech Translator aimed at facilitating communication between a deaf person who uses sign language with another person that does not understand sign language.

KiCare

KiCare is a non-invasive hardware and software technology that tests for Kidney functionality non-invasively, hence a blood sample is not required to perform the kidney functionality test.

Ocular

Ocular is a Point-of-Care diagnostic tool for microscopically diagnosed diseases including malaria, tuberculosis, intestinal parasites and related illnesses like blood anemia. Ocular works through a prototype smartphone based diagnostic tool – which we have custom-developed and successfully tested .

Blood Donation System

Blood Up is a blood Donation system provides a link between blood donors and centers through the use of a mobile application aimed at increasing access to blood when required. The mobile application is installed on smartphones and notifies eligible donor or recipient about their match.

Xente

Xente is an award-winning online payments platform that enables cashless consumer to business transactions. The application supports multiple platforms including feature phones, smartphones, desktop, point of sale and get paid via mobile money, bank cards (Visa, Mastercard), bitcoin and vouchers.
