President Museveni, Canadian PM Trudeau Discuss How To Revive Uganda’s Economy After COVID-19 Crisis

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Tuesday held a video conference meeting with the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, during which they discussed the way forward on how to revive Uganda’s economy amidst the Coronavirus crisis.

The meeting was also aimed at strengthening the relationship between Canada and Uganda, and to discuss the latest developments in the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to our State House Spies, the Prime Minister and the President exchanged views about their respective national efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and protect the health, safety, and economic well-being of their citizens.

Prime Minister Trudeau noted the importance of responding to the virus in a manner that protects the most vulnerable groups in society and upholds human rights.

The two leaders noted the devastating economic impacts of the pandemic for many countries and the importance of appropriate development financing to help countries bring back growth in key sectors. They discussed ways to continue strengthening the Canada-Uganda bilateral relationship and to advance shared priorities such as trade and investment, and international coordination to restore global economic activity.

Prime Minister Trudeau thanked President Museveni for Uganda’s ongoing help to repatriate Canadians seeking to return home during this crisis.

COVID-19 is a rapidly evolving global challenge. The Government of Canada is working closely with local, provincial, territorial, and international partners to minimize its health, economic, and social impacts in Canada and around the world.
