Kampala: Uganda’s electoral body, the Electoral Commission has confirmed and endorsed incumbent Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of the ruling party NRM as their flag bearer for the 2021 general elections.
The EC in a statement has confirmed that president Museveni fully complied and submitted all the necessary requirements for presidential elections thus confirming his candidature and name on the ballot paper come 2021 presidential elections.
”This is to certify that aspiring Candidate Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of the National Resistance Movement has submitted lists of supporters for his candidature for the Presidential Election, 2021 and the Electoral Commission has verified that the Aspiring Candidate has complied with Section 10 (1), (6) and 10 (3) of the Presidential Elections Act, 2005 (as amended),” reads EC’s statement.

In the same vein, 14 other presidential aspirants have returned to the Electoral Commission nomination forms including signatures seconding them for verification ahead of nomination early next month for the 2021 race.
The Electoral commission’s acting spokesperson, Paul Bukenya, said they are considering only 100 signatures from at least 98 districts presented and it does not matter how many endorsements one presents for verification.
Those who have returned forms include Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi under the National Unity Platform party, Charles Bbaale of the Ecological Party of Uganda, and Elizabeth Lugudde, an independent candidate among others.
