Exclusive: Gov’t Workers Advised To Park Gov’t Vehicles Over Bobi Wine Riots

Kampala: The Uganda Police Force have advised all public servants in possession of government vehicles to park them at gazetted places with immediate effect, so as to protect them from rioters.
In an internal memo released by the ministry of Public service yesterday and circulated to all ministry of public service drivers advised all workers in possession of government vehicles to park them henceforth until they are given further instructions about how to use them.

The statement was titled THREAT/RISK TO GOVERNMENT MOTOR VEHICLES, dated April 30th, 2019 addressed to All Staff Drivers, copied to the Minister and Permanent Secretary Ministry of Public Service and stated thus; “Due to the prevailing tense political atmosphere in the City, the Uganda Police has advised us to park all Government Motor Vehicles to preempt any threat or risk of being damaged. The Purpose of this memo us to advise you to park the Government Motor Vehicle under your charge with immediate effect until you are advise otherwise when the situation normalizes. By copy of this memo, the Transport Officer is required to circulate the information in this advisory and ensure that drivers adhere to it accordingly.”

The directive however comes at a time when the police across the country are battling riots staged by People Power supporters, who demand the release of their leader MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, who was early this week remanded to Luzira prisons until May 2nd,2019, for allegedly staging protests against the Social Media or OTT tax.
Wine will return at Buganda road court tomorrow Thursday.morning.
