Uganda is mourning the untimely death of Cedric Babu Ndilima — a prominent media personality, sports administrator, and former political aspirant — who passed away at the age of 46 following complications from a heart condition.

Cedric suffered a heart attack earlier this month while attending a tennis tournament in Kigali, Rwanda. He was airlifted to Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, where he remained in intensive care. Despite efforts by his family and friends to raise UGX 1.5 billion for an urgent heart transplant abroad, the intervention could not be carried out in time.

The son of veteran politician Capt. Francis Babu and businesswoman Olive Zaitun Kigongo, Cedric was a familiar face and name in Uganda’s public life, known for his charisma, intellect, and wide-ranging influence in media, sports, and youth development.

He first rose to national prominence in the early 2000s as a television presenter, where his communication skills and charm made him a household name. However, Cedric’s impact stretched far beyond television. A former national tennis champion, he captained Uganda’s Davis Cup team and later served as President of the Uganda Tennis Association, spearheading efforts to revive the sport and nurture young talent across the country.
In 2010, he founded Kinetic Management Group (KMG) — a pioneering firm in Uganda’s talent and brand management space. Through KMG, Cedric mentored artists, partnered with NGOs and corporate entities, and advocated for the creative economy as a key driver of national development.

His creative pursuits extended into acting, with a notable role in the Ugandan television series Beneath the Lies, where he played Stephen Amaru. His performance further cemented his popularity, especially among Uganda’s growing urban youth demographic.
In 2021, Cedric ventured into politics, contesting for the Kampala Central parliamentary seat on a platform centered on innovation, youth empowerment, and creative industry development. Though unsuccessful, his campaign was widely praised for its energy and forward-thinking ideas.
Educated in Kenya, Uganda, the United Kingdom, and the United States — where he earned a degree in International Business Administration from the University of Florida — Cedric brought a global outlook to his work at home. Friends and colleagues often described him as a visionary, a connector, and a firm believer in the power of young people to transform Uganda’s future.
News of his illness sparked a nationwide wave of solidarity, with a public fundraiser drawing support from individuals across sports, media, and business. His death, confirmed today, has left the country in shock and sorrow.
Cedric is survived by a young family. Funeral arrangements will be communicated by the family in due course.
His passing marks the end of a life that bridged industries, inspired a generation, and embodied a spirit of purpose, talent, and service.
