Rwandan Army Repatriates Ugandan UPDF Soldier Abducted From The Boader

According to reports from fellow soldiers, Private Bakuru Muhuba UPDF soldier attached to 35th Battalion based in Kisoro who was on routine patrol on Uganda’s side around the Cyanika border point with Rwanda was abducted by Rwandan soldiers on Saturday evening.

It is said that the abduction came after the soldier stayed behind to ease himself before he fell in an ambush by Rwandan soldiers who were manning their border of Cyanika and accused him of entering into their territory illegally.

However, in the new development, the Rwandan Defence Force (RDF) on Sunday afternoon released a statement saying they have repatriated this UPDF officer with all his equipment.

”Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) identified as Private Bakuru Muhuba in Burera District, Northern Province was repatriated and handed over to Ugandan authorities,” said Rwandan Army in a statement.

Muhuba was dressed in a UPDF camouflage uniform, armed with a medium machine gun (MMG) with its 100 rounds, 01 Binocular, a cellphone and his military identification documents, the statement noted.

Rwanda closed its border with Uganda in February 2019 following a diplomatic row, since then, each side has accused the other of abductions, illegal detention of citizens, illegal entry into territories among other accusations something that would be restored through talks that were halted by COVID-19.
