The former Nakasongola grade one magistrate was first hospitalized at St. Anthony medical center in Kasangati, Wakiso district in May 2021 due to stomach-related complications. At the time, his wife, Olive Wameli said her husband was rushed to the hospital in bad shape.
Wameli, a Pastor at Ebenezer Christian Fellowship in Kanyanya was in June 2021 rushed to Boston Medical Center in Massachusetts in the United States of America where he was informed that he was battling stage four cancer and it’s suspected that this is the disease that ended his dear life.
In his legal journey, Wameli has been involved in several famous cases including those of NUP supporters, former ADF rebel leader, Jamilu Mukulu, suspects implicated in the murder of AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi, and suspects implicated in the attempted murder of Gen Katumba Wamala and it’s this courage that Uganda Law Society based on in 2021 to recognize him as the human rights lawyer of the year.
