Serere District Teachers Are Not Paid For Close To A Year Now, CAO Blamed!

Serere district Members of Parliament have tasked government to pay primary teachers who have spent over eight months without salaries.

The Member of Parliament for Kasilo county Elijah Okupa reported that over 256 teachers have worked more than two years in primary schools minus pay despite being issued with pay slips.

He was reporting to Parliament at a meeting they held as leaders on 15th November regarding the complaints from the teachers not being paid their salary.

“Some of them are living in pain because their children have since dropped out of school or having problems in their marriages because they are not earning,” Okupa added.

The ministry of Education and public service faults the district Chief Administration Officer of Serere district for the mess.

The State minister for public service David Karubanga says that they have decentralized the payment of teachers in the district and all complaints regarding payment, teachers should be direct to the CAO.

The minister of state for planning David Bahati said that a team from the ministry of finance will go to Serere district to verify the allegations that teachers have spent 8 months without pay as he admits that there has been a problem on payroll and are trying to sort it out.

He told parliament that government has reduced the problem of ghost workers on government payroll to 5%.
