Sheema: The police in Sheema District have in detention a 30-year-old man identified as Amos Kakuru, a resident of Kyengiri village, Kyarikunda parish in Bugongi town council, over allegation that he defiled his 8-year-old daughter.
SP Scovia Birungi, the Sheema District Police Commandant (DPC), said that Kakuru raped and defiled his daughter when her mother (Kakuru’s wife) had gone to her parents’ home in Kishabya, Shuuku town council.
DPC Birungi condemned the act and said that Kakuru must face charges of defilement in courts of law. She urged women to stop trusting their daughters with their fathers and asked men to always drink little alcohol.
“It’s alleged that Kakuru was drunk when he defiled his own daughter, I urge men to always drink little alcohol or avoid drinking it because it’s shameful for a gentleman like Kakuru to defile his daughter. I also appeal to fellow women to stop trusting their daughters with husbands because I no longer understand how the men of these days think,” Birungi said.
She added that “Kakuru will be taken to court and charged accordingly when investigations are completed.”
Kitagata hospital medical superintendent Dr Johnson Kabwiishwa told this website that the girl’s private parts were savagely damaged and by reporting time, the girl was on the fourth drip because of too much bleeding.
She could neither walk nor sit without support and whenever she is asked what happened, she just cries.
Kabwiishwa added that the defiled girl was put on PEP drugs for almost 30 days until they test her father Kakuru for HIV/AIDS.
Verina Tumuramye, the victim’s mother, said that she has been living with Kakuru for over ten years and they have three children.
However, at the time of incident, she had gone to help her husband’s parents with domestic chores and that she had left the defiled daughter with a neighbor although Kakuru demanded that she sleeps home when he returned from bar.
When asked, Kakuru said that it’s true he defiled his daughter, but request DPC Birungi to take him a reverend in the police cells, saying that he wants to get saved before appearing in court.
