Former Butaleja District Local Council V Chairman Higenyi Micheal Bory has been remanded to custody after being charged with allegedly obtaining money by false pretences from job seekers.
Bory was arraigned Thursday before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Butaleja following investigations by the Anti-Graft Court Unit in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Prosecution alleges that between 2021 and January 2026, while serving as LCV chairperson of Butaleja District, Bory solicited millions of shillings from several job applicants during local government recruitment exercises.
According to the allegations, Bory promised the applicants that he would help them secure employment with Butaleja District Local Government.
Investigators, however, allege that the promises were false and that the former district chairman obtained money from the applicants without having the ability or authority to secure the jobs he promised.
The case forms part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to investigate alleged corruption and fraudulent practices surrounding recruitment into public service.
After appearing in court, Bory was remanded until September 1, 2026, when he is expected to return for further proceedings.
The Anti-Graft Court Unit, CID and ODPP are continuing with the case as investigations proceed.
Bory remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by a competent court.
