Three men have been charged and remanded to prison over a violent land takeover in Kasanje Town Council, Wakiso District, following a joint operation by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), and the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID).

The accused Ssempijja Edward, a businessman; Mirimu Ivan, a transport and clearing agent; and Bbaale Joseph, also a businessman were on Monday arraigned before the Wakiso Chief Magistrates Court to face charges of forcible entry, malicious damage to crops, and theft. They have been remanded until December 3, 2025.

According to prosecution, the trio, together with others still at large, allegedly carried out a coordinated and violent attempt to seize Busiro Block 514, Plots 6, 10, and 12 between October 30 and November 4, 2025.

Investigators say the group mobilized a large crowd to forcefully enter the land occupied by Pontiano Kaweesa Ssengendo, proprietor of Kamuli Industrial Estates Ltd. During the incursion, the suspects are accused of destroying tree plantations, coffee trees, and other natural vegetation on the disputed property.

The group also allegedly stole nine motors of coffee milling machines, all property of Kamuli Industrial Estates Ltd, valued at approximately UGX 100 million.

Authorities say investigations into the wider network believed to be involved in the land takeover are ongoing, with additional arrests expected as the case progresses.

The court has scheduled the suspects’ return for mention on December 3, as inquiries continue.
