Commissioner of Police Okello Makmot has reportedly died in a plane on transit from New Yolk to Uganda via Abudhabi airport on Wednesday.
Police Spokesperson SSP Emilian Kayima confirmed the sad news of the passing on of their colleague. “This afternoon, we received information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs stating the bad news of the death of Commissioner of Police, Okello Wilfred Makmot. He died while on transit from New York USA to Uganda via Abudhabi. Details surrounding our officer’s death will be communicated in due course’ said Kayima.
Okello, who was attached to the internal affairs ministry, was in charge of small firearms.
He has been in charge of private security Organizations and firearms.
Before moving to the ministry, Okello was at the Police Headquarters in Kampala between April 2009 and 2010. There, he supervised all private security organizations in the country.
The control of firearms and the vetting of individuals who applied for civilian firearms was also under his eye. Hard working Okello was also once a commandant of the Anti-stock Theft Unit in Eastern Uganda.
Mr.Kayima, in a private conversation with this reporter said police has not yet received a report of what could have caused his death and soon as they get it, they inform the relevant authorities, Kayima said. RIP Afande Okello.
