Shock As UPDF Soldier Drowns In River Nyamwamba

Kasese: A Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier identified as Private Alex Kasaja, of number 225189, attached to Battalion 25 stationed at Kavera barracks in Kasese town, allegedly drowned in river Nyamwamba, in Kasese Municipality.

Captain Fideri Masumbuko, the Rwenzori region UPDF public relations officer confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Private Alex Kasaja.

Capt. Masumbuko further noted that the late attended a friendly soccer match on Sunday last week at Nyakasanga playground from where he disappeared, only to be found dead on Friday afternoon.

Capt. Masumbuko added that investigations are underway to establish the actual cause of his death.

His body was later taken to Kasese Municipal Health Center III mortuary for postmortem.

Until his death, Private Kasaja was a resident of Kitabo village, Muhokya Sub-county in Kasese District.
