Police in Amuru District, working jointly with the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF), have arrested six suspects in connection with the theft of more than 100 head of cattle from the farm of former East African Legislative Assembly Speaker Dan Kidega.

According to police, the theft occurred on February 12, 2026, at Ocibi “A” Village in Bana Parish, Lakang Sub-county, Amuru District. The stolen animals, numbering 105, were reportedly taken from Kidega’s farm in a well-coordinated operation now believed to have involved insiders.

The suspects, currently detained at Amuru Central Police Station, have been identified as Kuzara Ezra, 33, a resident of Kamuli Village in Rakai District; Talemwa George, 22, of Ocipi Village, Lakang Sub-county; Ihanga Nathan, 27, from Mukageta Village in Lyantonde District; Kakuru Fred, 33, a resident of Mutukula Village in Kyotera District; Kairanga Stephen, and Agaba Emma, 30, both residents of New York Village in Bana Parish, Lakang Sub-county.

Preliminary investigations indicate that herdsmen employed to manage the farm allegedly played a central role in orchestrating the theft. Police say the suspects are believed to have collaborated with external accomplices to transport the animals using trucks.

Authorities have identified a key suspect, Denis alias “Sebabanda,” who is believed to have coordinated the transportation of the stolen cattle. He remains on the run, and security agencies say efforts to track and apprehend him are ongoing.

Security forces launched an immediate recovery operation and intercepted the stolen animals on February 13, 2026, at Ajok Village in Bana Parish as the suspects allegedly attempted to cross the River Nile.

So far, 84 head of cattle have been recovered, while operations continue to trace and recover the remaining 21 animals.

Police have confirmed that investigations are still underway as authorities work to establish the full network behind the theft and recover all stolen livestock. The suspects are expected to face charges related to stock theft once inquiries are completed.
