Bukedea – The Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda, has been duly nominated unopposed to contest as Woman Member of Parliament for Bukedea District in the forthcoming 2026–2031 term.
The development followed the close of nominations, during which no other candidate presented themselves to challenge her bid, effectively securing her another term in Parliament without contest. The announcement was met with widespread jubilation among supporters, who thronged Bukedea District Electoral Commission offices clad in yellow attire and chanting slogans of victory.

Among, who has represented Bukedea since 2016, expressed deep gratitude to her constituents for their unwavering trust and confidence in her leadership. She pledged to continue championing development programs in education, health, and women empowerment across the district.

“I am humbled by this renewed mandate. This is not just my victory but a reflection of the faith and unity of the people of Bukedea. Together, we shall continue to build and serve,” she said after receiving her nomination certificate.

Her unopposed nomination also underscores her entrenched political influence both within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and her home district, where she has initiated several community-driven projects.

With this development, Speaker Among becomes one of the first candidates in the 2026 general elections to be declared unopposed, a clear testament to her dominance and popularity in Bukedea’s political landscape.
