Speaker Kadaga Cautions Corrupt Leaders To Repent At National Breakfast Prayer

By Peter Ssebulime

Kampala: The Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has asked corrupt leaders in Uganda to obey and respect the civil servants code of conduct as enshrined in the constitution.

Kadaga, while making her remarks at the 21st National Prayer Breakfast in Kampala, noted that some government officials have accumulated abnormal wealth through corruption, leading to poor service delivery.

She prayed that those with such wealth may find God’s righteous hand and release such embezzled money to poor people through donating it to health facilities, schools and orphanages.

Kadaga also advised leaders to have vision, integrity, seriousness, honesty and courage to fight corruption.

This year’s event was based on the theme “The power of character in leadership.”

Meanwhile, Uganda Cranes football team captain Denis Onyango asked government to consider increasing funds given to the sports fraternity.

Onyango said “Uganda has many talents but they are either less developed or not due to few or no sports facilities in the country.”

He added that “Sports is not about football or pitches but also other disciplines like athletics, swimming high jump and others which need both financial and physical support.”

Onyango appreciated God for the great achievements he has accorded him since his childhood as a junior footballer from Nsambya up to where he is now in South Africa as a professional footballer.

While at the same occasion, the Leader of Opposition Betty Aol expressed concern about unequal distribution of resources in Uganda, noting that Uganda has many resources but they are not equally distributed.

She further prayed to God to give and increase wisdom among our leaders to guide them and provide quality health, education and clean water to Ugandans.

Aol also prayed for the nation and asked God’s spirit to act on corrupt leaders so that they can repent and turn to God and serve honestly.
