Speaker Rebecca Kadaga Appeals To Migrant Host Countries To Observe Human Rights, Freedom

The Speaker of Parliament of Uganda Hon. Rebecca Kadaga while addressing a delegation of Members of Parliament at the 139th assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Conference in Geneva Switzerland on Sunday.

Hon. Kadaga said migrant host nations should adhere to international laws pertaining Human Rights and freedom.

She also went ahead to call upon Parliamentarians to play a critical role in policy formulation and also ensure their governments adherence to the deserved Rights of the migrants.

In her speech during the 28th session of women Parliamentarians forum, on the theme: ‘migrant women: inclusion, work and rights in host countries’ Kadaga informed delegates that Uganda hosts many refugees adding that  it has ratified the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of all Migrant Workers and their Family members.

Kadaga appealed to migrant host countries to protect the rights of women to work and also recognize that migration is a way of improving their rights and opportunities for work within families.

Speaker Kadaga is expected to lead the 4 days conference from 14th to 18th October 2018.
