“I am happy to announce that a decision has been reached by the party through its top organs, the working committee, the Parliamentary caucus, and the National Executive Council (NEC) to front the Hon. However, It’s worth noting that a few weeks ago FDC party president, Patrick Amuriat Oboi openly distanced himself and the party from the candidature of Ssemujju Ibrahim Nganda for the Speaker of Parliament.

Before his endorsement, the Kiira Municipality Member of Parliament, who also doubles as the Chief Opposition Whip in Parliament had positioned himself as the official opposition candidate and even written letters to the presidents of other political parties to endorse his candidature.

Birigwa further noted that as FDC, they will give their candidates all the necessary support throughout the race in the next Parliament.

FDC has become the first political party to endorse candidates for both the SPeakership and Deputy speaker race as the rest are yet to make any official announcements.
