A joint anti-corruption operation has led to the arrest and arraignment of a man accused of attempting to extort money through a fabricated murder plot.

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit, working together with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), on Monday presented Kizito Ronald before the Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s Court on charges of demanding money with menaces.

Court heard that in February 2026, Kizito reported to Kira Police Station claiming he had been hired by a one Robert Mugimba to kill his wife. However, investigations later revealed that the allegation was false.

In March 2026, Kizito reportedly confessed that he had fabricated the claim. He then allegedly turned to Mr Mugimba and demanded UGX 4 million in exchange for retracting the earlier false report.

Authorities say Kizito was arrested during an operation while receiving the money.

He was subsequently charged and remanded to prison until April 30, 2026, as investigations and prosecution of the case continue.

Officials have warned that making false reports and attempting to extort money through threats or deception are serious offences that attract severe penalties under Ugandan law.
