The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU) has joined hands with key anti-corruption stakeholders to launch a citizen-led anti-corruption caravan aimed at strengthening public participation in the fight against corruption in the Bunyoro Sub-region.
The flag-off ceremony was held on Saturday morning at the offices of ActionAid Uganda and brought together representatives from the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, Inspectorate of Government, ActionAid Uganda, and other anti-corruption agencies and development partners.
The Anti-Corruption Caravan, scheduled to run from June 22 to 26, 2026, will traverse various districts across the Bunyoro Sub-region, engaging citizens and local leaders on the importance of transparency, accountability, and integrity in public service delivery.
According to organizers, the initiative seeks to amplify citizen voices and encourage communities to take an active role in exposing and preventing corruption. The campaign will feature a range of activities, including public awareness drives, community dialogues, road rallies, media engagements, and joint monitoring visits to assess service delivery and accountability mechanisms in the region.
Officials noted that corruption remains a major obstacle to development, undermining public trust and diverting resources away from essential services. They emphasized that meaningful progress in combating the vice requires strong collaboration between government institutions, civil society organizations, development partners, and citizens.
The caravan is expected to provide a platform for residents to raise concerns, share experiences, and interact directly with anti-corruption agencies, while also promoting greater awareness of reporting channels and accountability mechanisms available to the public.
The initiative reflects a growing commitment among anti-corruption actors to foster citizen-centered approaches in the fight against corruption and strengthen grassroots participation in promoting good governance across Uganda.
