The State House Anti-Corruption Unit, working jointly with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), has arraigned a man accused of impersonating a State House official in a land-related fraud scheme.

The suspect, Mawejje John, appeared before court on charges of personation and was remanded until November 19, 2025, pending further proceedings.

According to prosecution, the incident occurred on July 11, 2025, at Embassy House in Kampala, where Mawejje allegedly deceived Namakula Rose Mary by claiming to be an employee of State House. Authorities say he used the false identity with the intention of defrauding or misleading her.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Mawejje summoned Namakula to what he described as an “investigation meeting” at the President’s Office in State House, Kampala. He reportedly told her that he was conducting inquiries into a land transaction involving a house she sold in 2004 to one Weraga Robert, located in Maganjo Zone, Nabweru Town Council, Wakiso District.

Namakula was instructed to bring signed land transfer forms for the purported investigation. However, security agencies later established that Mawejje had no affiliation with State House or any government investigative body.
He was arrested shortly after, and several documents related to the land sale were recovered from him. These have since been submitted as evidence as the case proceeds.

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit has warned the public against falling prey to impostors posing as government officials and encouraged citizens to verify identities before engaging in any official-looking processes.
