State Of Higher Education Institutions Is Deplorable’-Min. Muyingo

Reports released on Tuesday by the National Council for Higher Education indicate that the status of several institutions higher education in Uganda is still wanting, which has led to poor standards of products passed out by these institutions. 

While reading the reports at her office in Kampala, the Executive Director National Council for Higher Education, Prof. Mary Okwakor said that; “Institutions continue to register low enrolment levels of 6.85% which is way below the 24% globally and 10% regionally accepted average, due to poor infrastructure, low staffing levels, low research and innovation capacity, low funding among others.”
 
Okwakor added that “This has greatly affected higher education standards in Uganda.”

While launching the reports, the minister for higher education, John Chrysostom Muyingo, asked all stakeholders to think of new ways on how best higher education can be improved if the country is to regain its rankings globally.
 
He also castigated universities that are teaching students like secondary schools, saying that such universities should be closed. The two reports launched include the Tracer Study for Graduates and the State of Higher Education and Training in Uganda 2017/18.
