Sheema: District Education (DEO) Nshabiirwe Esau Willy has warned teachers in the District against drinking alcohol during school hours, or face legal action.
Nsabiirwe made these remarks on Tuesday September 17 while supervising schools in Sheema District as they welcomed third term.
He urged school authorities to report teachers and headteachers who drink alchol especially during day time.
“For how long will I say this, this time am not requesting but commanding you, report to me those teachers who drink during day and those who attend classes smelling alcohol, it’s better to arrest them red handed. I must drag them to courts of law for legal action and be there to give evidence,” Nsabiirwe said.
He warned teachers who take days minus reporting to their respective schools that their salaries will be withheld until prior explanation is made.
Nshabiirwe added that efforts are being made to gather proper evidence to discipline the implicated teachers.
“We are going to identify such defiant staff during inspection and monitoring, it’s just a matter of time, he warned.
“I ordered all headteachers to register all teachers present , their arrival and departure time, you miss the attendence list for three days, you face it rough. I don’t see the reason why you should be paid yet you are not delivering services,” Nshabiirwe warned.
Nshabiirwe also urged teachers to always respect their head teachers.
“Sometimes I wonder, was told that there are some teachers who disrespect their headteachers, I don’t know where these teachers get pride from, there is no teacher who is above the headteacher. I therefore request such teachers to calm down because you are not the first or the last to become a teacher. If they report, bring you to me and we confirm as a disciplinary committee, aah! You may end up regretting . This term i only need best results, nothing else” Nshabiirwe warned.
