The Government of Uganda has issued a security advisory to its nationals residing in Iran, urging heightened vigilance and advising those able to do so to leave the country amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

In a statement released Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Uganda said it is closely monitoring developments in the region “with grave concern” and called on all parties involved in the conflict to exercise restraint and prioritize dialogue.

“In light of the escalating security situation, all Ugandan citizens in the territory of Iran, who can, are advised to take serious precautions for their safety and leave Iran through any possible means,” the ministry said.

As part of precautionary measures, the government has withdrawn all non-essential staff from Uganda’s embassy in Tehran. Officials said consular services are now severely limited while alternative arrangements are being made.

Ugandans who remain in Iran have been urged to inform community leaders of their whereabouts, stay indoors, and closely monitor media updates for further instructions. The ministry cautioned that information regarding possible evacuations would be limited until conditions stabilize.
The advisory also extends beyond Iran. Citing the fluid security environment and disruptions to international travel, Uganda has strongly advised its citizens to suspend travel to the Middle East until further notice.
The statement was signed by Bagiire Vincent Waiswa, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ugandan authorities said they will continue to assess the situation and provide updates as necessary to ensure the safety and welfare of their citizens abroad.
