Thanks For Peaceful Step Down: Samia Suluhu Hands Over Multibillion Residential Mansion To Ex-President Jakaya Kikwete

By Spy Uganda Correspondent

On Sunday, May 9, President Samia Suluhu handed Kikwete a model of the keys to Tanzania’s fourth president Jakaya Kikwete for his official residential house built by the government. The house is located in Kinondoni, found on the outskirts of Dar es Salaam.

Kikwete had been slated to receive the house from the late John Magufuli on March 2 this year, but the handover could not happen due to, among other reasons, the sickness and tight schedule of the now fallen president.

According to Tanzania’s Political Service Retirement Benefits Act of 1999, the President and Vice-President are entitled to several benefits upon leaving their respective offices. Other beneficiaries are the Prime Minister, ministers, members of parliament, regional and district commissioners, and other high ranking politicians.

This comes a day after Suluhu gifted the country’s second president, Ali Hassan Mwinyi, with a low Mercedes Benz on his 96th birthday, which she said would be convenient for him (Mwinyi) as he goes about his daily routines.

“I have prepared a gift for Mzee Mwinyi, at the age of 96 today, I have been seeing the inconvenience as he gets in and out of his car, on behalf of the government our Elder today we will give him a low Benz that will give him pleasure in his travels,” said Samia.
