Kampala: Dubai became the first intercontinental destination for Uganda Airlines on October 4, with the arrival of its inaugural flight from Entebbe into Dubai International’s (DXB) Terminal 1.

Dubai International Airport is the primary international airport serving Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and is the world’s busiest airport by international passenger traffic-Uganda Airline could not wait to tap into this traffic.

The carrier is operating direct services between the Ugandan capital and Dubai on a 258-seater Airbus A330-800 Neo three times a week. With the addition of a new service on the route, expect growth in terms of passenger volumes.

Dubai Airport is over 60 years old. It opened on 30 September 1960 with a small terminal building and a sand runway that could only handle an aircraft with a capacity of 21 to 32 passengers.

In the beginning, the tiny airport was mainly used as a refuelling station but was later refurbished with an asphalt runway and other facilities and by the 1970s, the Airport was fully refurbished to welcome international passengers from around the world. Today, DXB Airport has over 70 airlines flying to over 220 airports in 214 cities across 94 countries.

As we report this, Dubai is the nineteenth-busiest airport in the world by passenger traffic, one of the busiest cargo airports in the world, the busiest airport for Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 movements, and the airport with the highest average number of passengers per flight.
