Police in Bwera Division, Kasese District, have arrested three men accused of impersonating military officials attached to State House, Entebbe. The suspects were apprehended over the weekend after failing to present credible identification or proof of their purported roles.

According to the Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson, SSP Nelson Tumushime, the trio was intercepted at Bwera Police Station after raising suspicion among officers.
“The suspects claimed to be State House operatives, but they failed to produce any valid documentation. Their explanations were inconsistent and unconvincing, which prompted the District Police Commander, SP Tai Ramadan, to order their immediate arrest,” said SSP Tumushime.

The suspects have been identified as Byabagambi Godwin, 42, a resident of Mbarara City; Twesigye Richard, 48, from Ntungamo District; and Baluku Isaac, 47, a resident of Mpondwe Town Council in Kasese District.

Police also impounded a vehicle the men were using, a Toyota bearing registration number UBK 573D. A search of the vehicle revealed a sharp knife and stamps from various companies, which police believe could have been used to facilitate fraudulent activities.
“We suspect these individuals may have used their false identities to commit other offenses. We are treating this matter with the seriousness it deserves,” SSP Tumushime added.
The suspects are currently facing charges of impersonation, and police have opened a file that is awaiting sanctioning by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. If sanctioned, the suspects will be formally charged and arraigned in court.
Police have issued a call to the public to come forward with any information regarding the suspects or their activities.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have interacted with these individuals or who might have been affected by their actions to report to the nearest police station. Your information could be vital in strengthening the case against them,” Tumushime urged.
Police has reminded the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to the authorities.
