By Peter Ssebulime

His Eminence Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala has called on Gov’t to tighten and implement the police and road safety laws to curb the rampant road accidents on Kampala-Masaka road caused mostly by reckless driving. He said this while flagging off the 2017 runners in a marathon organized by Nkozi University to raise funds for construction of emergency and accident unit for to be constructed at the hospital for accident victims. Wamala, who was the chief runner on Saturday, decried the fact that the country has lost a lot of resourceful people on the road due to bad driving, but also the distance to drive the victims from Masaka road to Kampala to get timely treatment has been a challenge.

Nkozi hospital which is under the Catholic Church was founded in 1962 but lacked such a facility to handle such incidents.

The Masaka woman Mp Hon.Mary Babirye Kabanda urged the drivers to obey laws and road signage on the roads to mitigate accidents.

Kabanda said that she joined the fellow Ugandans in the Nkozi hospital marathon to contribute towards the construction of the accident emergency unit handling the accident victims.
