To Hell With Your Rotten Behaviors: Court Remands Two To Kitalya For Assaulting A Journalist, Pallisa MP Otukol On Wanted List

Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s Court has today charged and remanded two for assaulting and causing body harm to a journalist.

Court heard that Fred Habajja and Hezekiah Osire with Pallisa MP Sam Otukol on Friday last week assaulted a one Bunya Emmanuel accusing him of taking photos of MP Otukol while in court over embezzlement and theft of about UGX2billions.

It is against the above background that Court remanded Habajja and Hezekiah to Kitalya Prison until December 2 where as Hon.Otukol is wanted by Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over same case.

According to the summons seen by this website, Otukol is supposed to appear at CID headquarters today 24th November 2021, before D/ASP Sowedi Mohamed for statement recording.

Otukol Battling Corruption Charges 

Otukol Samuel was arrested in February by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit for allegedly conniving with the accounting officers of Apac, Jinja, Manafwa, Butebo and Namisindwa to swindle about UGX2billion meant for staff salaries.

Summons Against Otukol

The MP and accounting officers in the mentioned municipalities and local governments allegedly connived and colluded with the directors of different companies under the guise of loan deductions and took the salaries.

According to the prosecution, the accused invested the money in Saccos and private companies.

On the arrest of Otukol and his group, they claimed that the money was to pay the loan arrears for the district teachers, which was not true, according to prosecution.

It is against the above background that Otukol was on 19th November 2021 (previous Friday) charged with theft and conspiracy to commit a felony while the other three were charged with abuse of office, causing financial loss to the government and conspiracy to felony.

Under Section 254 and 261 of the Penal Code Act, the offence of theft attracts a maximum sentence of 10-years imprisonment, on conviction.
