The Tooro Kingdom has dismissed reports that Omukama Rukirabasaija Dr. Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV Amooti, is critically ill and battling cancer in a United States hospital, saying the King is in good health and currently abroad on official engagements and for further studies.
The clarification follows TheSpy Uganda’s breaking story published yesterday, which reported claims that the young Tooro monarch had been admitted to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a US hospital, reportedly over cancer.
In a statement issued on Sunday, August 3, 2026, under the heading “His Majesty the King is Well,” the Tooro Kingdom said it was concerned about what it described as “false and misleading reports” regarding the King’s health.
“We wish to reassure all our people that His Majesty is in good health. He is currently abroad for official engagements and to further his studies,” the statement reads.
The Kingdom urged the public to rely on information released through its official communication channels and reject what it described as “malicious rumours and defamatory misinformation.”
“False information causes unnecessary anxiety, undermines public trust, and does not serve our people’s interests,” the statement adds.
But who officially owns the statement?
While the palace response appears to put the cancer reports to rest, TheSpy Uganda has noted an important anomaly in the communication that raises questions about its formal authorship and authentication.
The statement circulating bears the Tooro Kingdom branding and is dated 3rd August 2026, but it does not identify or name the official who has issued it on behalf of the Kingdom, nor does it carry the name and signature of the responsible official.
This is particularly noteworthy because the statement is also understood to have been shared through an X (formerly Twitter) account associated with Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong.
A communication concerning the health and whereabouts of the King, particularly one issued in response to a major public controversy, would ordinarily be expected to clearly identify the person speaking on behalf of the institution—such as the Prime Minister, Palace spokesperson or another duly authorised official and provide their name, title and formal sign-off, and even leave contacts below for media follow ups. That’s the professional way of communication expected from an institution of Tooro’s caliber.
Instead, the statement concludes simply with: “Thank you, Omukama Ahangirize! ENDS”
There is no name or signature of the official responsible for the statement beneath the sign-off.
This omission becomes significant given that the Kingdom itself asks the public to distinguish between official communication and what it describes as ‘misinformation’.
It leaves an obvious question: Who, precisely, is formally taking responsibility for this particular communication on behalf of the Tooro Kingdom?
Whether the omission was accidental, deliberate or simply a matter of the Kingdom’s communication style, TheSpy Uganda leaves readers to draw their own conclusions.
For the avoidance of doubt, the anomaly does not by itself establish that the statement is false or unauthorised. Rather, it raises a question of formal attribution and accountability in an official communication of considerable public importance. TheSpy Uganda stands by responsible reporting.
