Tragedy As Two Passenger Trains Crash In India, Scores Injured

Several people are nursing injuries after two passenger trains collided head-on at Kacheguda Railway Station in Hyderabad, India on Sunday.

According to Indian press, over 30 people were injured when when a MMTS train crashed into a Kongu express train which was waiting at the platform for passengers.

An official at South Central Railway said that; “Both trains were moving slowly since they were within the station limits. As per preliminary information, two persons were injured.”
Indian Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has since instructed local authorities to provide immediate assistance to the injured.

Minister Piyush tweeted thus about the accident; “Received the tragic news of the train accident in Hyderabad and immediate instructions have been given to the authorities for assistance and monitoring.

Railway administration is extending assistance and have made arrangements for the treatment of the injured at the accident site.”
Reports indicate that passengers suffered injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals for medical attention.

​​There have been several train accidents in India and in July, 2019, Indian Railways claimed that due to a strict safety audit and advanced technology to curb train accidents, the number of train accidents had decreased from 118 in 2013 and 2014 to 104 in 2016-2017, 73 in 2017-2018 and 59 (thus far) in 2018-2019.

However, following the accident, schedules of train services have been affected due to the accident and authorities are rescheduling some trains so as to rectify the situation.
