The legal fraternity is in mourning following the sudden and tragic death of Fatumah Bbuye Nabiwemba, an Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, whose body was discovered at her residence in Wampeewo, Kasangati Town Council, Wakiso District.

The 47-year-old senior prosecutor was found dead on Thursday evening, July 10, 2025, after being unaccounted for at her workplace for several days. According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the incident was reported at approximately 8:36 p.m. by Hamuza Kabanda, a driver attached to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Police responded swiftly to the call. A team of detectives, led by the Division Police Commander, carried out a preliminary search of the residence and later transported the body to City Mortuary for a postmortem to establish the exact cause of death.

“Investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances under which the death occurred,” ASP Owoyesigyire confirmed.
Nabiwemba, who lived alone, had not been seen or heard from by her colleagues for nearly four days, sparking concern that ultimately led to the wellness check and tragic discovery. Her children, according to sources, are currently in boarding school.

A Career Of Service & Integrity
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) released a statement expressing deep sorrow over the loss.
“The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions regrets to announce the untimely passing of Ms. Fatumah Nabiwemba, Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, which occurred at her residence. Funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course,” said Jacquelyne Okui, the ODPP spokesperson.
Nabiwemba was a respected figure in Uganda’s justice system, having served with distinction in various capacities, including as Deputy Head of the Inspections and Quality Assurance Department. Known for her professionalism and firm commitment to justice, she was widely regarded as a rising force in the prosecutorial ranks.
Previous Disappearance in 2017
This is not the first time concerns have been raised over Nabiwemba’s well-being. In December 2017, she was reported missing for nearly two and a half months. She was later found safe in February 2018.
At the time, her husband, Dr. Ibrahim Sendagire, told media that her disappearance was believed to be linked to postnatal depression following the loss of their infant child. He explained that she had needed time alone to grieve and recover emotionally.
While the circumstances of her current death remain unclear, police are exploring all leads as part of the investigation. There were no immediate signs of foul play, but authorities have not ruled anything out pending a full forensic examination.
The passing of Fatumah Nabiwemba marks a sobering moment for the ODPP and the wider legal community. Colleagues and friends have begun sharing messages of grief and remembrance, describing her as a diligent public servant who upheld the rule of law with quiet strength and unwavering focus.
As investigations continue, many are left grappling with both shock and sadness, mourning a woman whose life’s work was dedicated to justice—but whose own story now demands answers.
