Two Miners Buried Alive In Buhweju Gold Mines

BUHWEJU, Uganda: Two gold miners have been reported dead in a gold mine in Buhweju. The two identified as Abenaitwe Sabastian and Sam Muhairwe perished in Buhweju district Gold mines after land collapsed on them. The incident happened at 9:00Am on Wednesday.

SP Martial Tumusiime, the greater Bushenyi police spokesperson said that because of recent rainfall in the area, part of the land nearby collapsed and two miners who were extracting gold were buried live. He said that the incident occurred at around 9am in Nyarujoje Village in Rwanyamabare parish in Nyakishana Sub-county Buhweju district.  Tumusiime said that it was reported by Richard Bogere, a resident of the same area who is the eye witness.

The police from Nsiika police station teamed up with locals and recovered the dead bodies which they took to Nsiika health centre IV mortuary for postmortem.
