Two Remanded Over Alleged False Sodomy Claims Against Minister Balaam

By Spy Uganda

Two businessmen have been remanded to Luzira Prison after being charged over alleged publication of false sodomy claims targeting Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara.

The accused, Ronald Mayega, 33, also known as Omunyarwanda wa Bobi, and Swaibu Kakaire, 28, alias One-One, appeared before Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court following allegations that they circulated the claims against the minister.

Mayega, a businessman and resident of Masitowa in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District, and Kakaire, also a businessman from Kyengera, are accused of publishing the allegations, which have now become the subject of criminal proceedings.

The court ordered the two to be remanded to Luzira Prison as the case progresses, with their next appearance scheduled for September 28, 2026.

The case puts the spotlight on the growing challenge of false and potentially damaging allegations being circulated against public figures, particularly through public communication platforms.

For Minister Balaam, the court proceedings provide an avenue for the allegations to be tested through the legal process rather than through unverified claims circulating in the public domain. Stay tuned.
