UBTEB Set To Construct Multi-Billion Assessment Centre After 10yrs Renting

Uganda Business and Technical Examination Board (UBTEB) is in the move of establishing that its permanent home, Board Chairman Eng Dr Silver Mugisha has revealed.

UBTEB after 10 years of existence has been renting despite its mandate that goes beyond Uganda as examinations assessment board.

“One of the plans to embark on UBTEB is to see that we actualise construction of UBTEB assessment centre. This help us realise our mission and vision in the region,” Mugisha said.

Although he did not mention the total cost of the seemingly multi-billion building, Mugisha said the architural drawings are ready with board of UBTEB.

Speaking during the launch of the Board’s 10 years in existence in Kampala, Eng Silver Mugisha thanked Ugandans for appreciating Technical and Vocational Education, something he says has seen the number of students registering for their exams increasing over time.

“We have registered an increase in the number of candidature, from 10,000 to 256,712 students in a period of 10 years since its inception in 2011,” he said.

“There has also been an increase in the number of accredited examination centers from 119 in 2011 to 578 centres as well as examinable programmes to 173,” Mugisha added.

He however says that the Board is working around the clock to ensure that it gets an ISO international certificate so that certificates issued to Ugandan students are internationally recognized.

UBTEB Executive Secretary-Onesmus Oyesigye told TheSpy Uganda that in the next coming years the Board will embrace technology to advise service delivery.

“Our next focus will be ICT integration, automation of systems and modularised assessment,” he added.

John Muyingo Minister for Higher education pledged to support UBTEB by fostering favourable environment and collaborations to enhance examination assessments to improve Uganda’s education systems.
