Uganda Airlines Issues Tough Covid-19 Guidelines For Arriving,Departing Passengers

Entebbe International Airport together with national Courier Uganda Airlines have issued new strict Covid-19 guidelines for both arriving and departing travellers aimed at preventing further spread of Covid-19.

This follows the presidential directive to suspend public activities and regulate public transport with more enforcement on all the SOPs put in place to curb the spread of Covid-19.

In his national address, while commenting on public transport, Museveni noted that travellers from category 1 will not be allowed into Uganda except returning Ugandans whom he also said must undergo tests before proceeding to their destinations.

According to a statement from Uganda airlines, Entebbe International Airport Health shall approve for arrival or departure negative PCR COVID-19 test certificate done within 120 hours from the time of sample collection. Travelers en route to ElA must have had a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken 120 hours from the time of sample collection and hold a certificate without which he/she will not be allowed to enter Uganda.

The statement further noted that travel from Category1 countries remains suspended except for returning Ugandans adding that all arriving passengers from category 1 and 2 countries will be subjected to a PCR COVID-19 test on arrival in Uganda, at the traveller’s own cost.

The category two countries also include the United States, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, South Africa, Kenya, and Tanzania. Category 3-All countries not in Categories 1 & 2. These will not be subjected to PCR tests on arrival.

Individuals from Category 2 countries who have received full COVID-19 vaccination and have no sign of COVID-19 will be exempted from PCR tests on arrival.

In the same vein. Uganda Airlines adds that travelers departing Entebbe International Airport are required to know, understand, and interpret the COVID-19 requirement of the country they are traveling to. Passengers traveling out of the country will be required to have Authentic Valid Negative PCR test Certificates and abide by the travel, health, and COVID-19 related requirements of the destination Country.

Passengers departing in CURFEW TIME with a valid air ticket shall be allowed to proceed to their destination airport. Drivers should have evidence that they come from the Airport to drop or pick up passengers.

Passengers arriving in CURFEW TIME with a valid air ticket and boarding pass shall be allowed to proceed to their hotels or residence

Last week, President Yoweri Museveni ordered the closure of schools and suspended all political, religious, and cultural gatherings for 42 days in an attempt to control the spread of coronavirus.

Uganda has faced a spike in recent weeks and as of today, the country has confirmed 1,026 new cases bringing the cumulative confirmed cases to 53,961.
