COVID-19:Uganda Confirms 6th Death As Cases Shoot To 1245

The Ministry of Health has confirmed that Uganda has registered one COVID-19 death today which brings the total death cases to six.

The deceased, is a 70-year-old Ugandan male, a resident of Nateete, Kampala.

Ministry says, July 24, 2020, the deceased presented at Lubaga Hospital with signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19 which include: mild fever, cough and dificulty in breathing.

Further investigations revealed that he was diabetic; a risk factor for COVID-19. Upon deterioration, he was admitted at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the same hospital and COVID-19 samples were taken off from him and sent to laboratories for ANALYSIS that later confirmed for SARS-COV-2.

He was later referred to Mulago National Referral Hospital on 28th July 2020 and admitted at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

“Unfortunately, he passed away yesterday evening on 06th August, 2020” Ministry said.

Ministry Of Health Statement On The New Death

In the same vein, thirty-one (31) new COVID-19 cases were confirmed from samples tested on 06th August, 2020.

Out of the new confirmed cases nineteen (19) are alerts, eight (8) are contacts to previously confirmed cases while four (4) are truck drivers.

Regarding the alerts, four (4) are from Kampala Metropolitan Area, four (4) from Wakiso, one (1) from Sironko, one (1) from Bushenyi, two (2) from Kisoro, four (4) from Amuru, three (3) from Adjumani.

The Ministry also confirmed five (5) contacts to previously confirmed cases from Kampala Metropolitan Area that included one (1) from Kabale, one (1) from Wakiso and one (1) from Namisindwa.

Of the four (4) truck drivers, two (2) arrived from Kenya via Malaba point of entry while two (2) arrived from South Sudan via Elegu point of entry.

Mean while, Twenty-five (25) foreign truck drivers that include 18 Kenyans, 4 Tanzanians, 2 Congolese and 1 Rwandan, tested positive for COVID-19 at the border points of entry and their entry into the country was not permitted.

The Ministry also tested 1,328 Samples from points of entry 1006 from alerts and contacts totaling to 2334 number of samples tested the whole day while 290,701 samples have been tested since the outbreak.

So far Uganda has registered 1245 total COVID-19 cases, 1113 cumulative recoveries and 6 deaths.
