Uganda’s COVID-19 Curve Shoot Higher As Ministry Of Health Registers 8,662 Cases

Kampala: Ministry of Health has registered 8,662 total of cumulative cases after confirming 171 new infections from COVID-19 tests done on 2 October 2020 that also confirmed 4,546 recoveries.

The breakdown of the new cases are: 117 contacts and alerts from Masaka (43), Kampala (28), Jinja (10), Kole (12), Bukwo (10), Lira (3), Apac (2), Kisoro (2), Mukono (1), Namisindwa (1), Tororo (3), Wakiso (1), Busia (1) with 54 returnees from Jordan (48), Oman (5), UAE (1).

Since 31 December 2019 and as of 03 October 2020, 34 680 199 cases of COVID-19 have been reported, including 1 029 525 deaths.

Cases have been reported from:

Africa: 1 498 661 cases; the five countries reporting most cases are South Africa (677 833), Morocco (128 565), Egypt (103 466), Ethiopia (76 988) and Nigeria (59 127).

Asia: 10 814 423 cases; the five countries reporting most cases are India (6 473 544), Iran (464 596), Iraq (372 259), Bangladesh (366 383) and Saudi Arabia (335 578).

America: 17 043 337 cases; the five countries reporting most cases are United States (7 332 285), Brazil (4 880 523), Colombia (841 531), Peru (821 564) and Argentina (779 676).

Europe: 5 289 291 cases; the five countries reporting most cases are Russia (1 194 643), Spain (789 932), France (589 653), United Kingdom (467 146) and Italy (319 908).

Oceania: 33 791 cases; the five countries reporting most cases are Australia (27 113), Guam (2 550), French Polynesia (1 964), New Zealand (1 493) and Papua New Guinea (539).

Other: 696 cases have been reported from an international conveyance in Japan.

Deaths have been reported from:

Africa: 36 224 deaths; the five countries reporting most deaths are South Africa (16 909), Egypt (5 956), Morocco (2 263), Algeria (1 749) and Ethiopia (1 208).

Asia: 197 061 deaths; the five countries reporting most deaths are India (100 842), Iran (26 567), Indonesia (10 972), Iraq (9 298) and Turkey (8 325).

America: 569 330 deaths; the five countries reporting most deaths are United States (208 716), Brazil (145 388), Mexico (78 492), Peru (32 609) and Colombia (26 397).

Europe: 225 920 deaths; the five countries reporting most deaths are United Kingdom (42 268), Italy (35 941), France (32 155), Spain (32 086) and Russia (21 077).

Oceania: 983 deaths; the five countries reporting most deaths are Australia (890), Guam (49), New Zealand (25), French Polynesia (8) and Papua New Guinea (7).
