Uganda Cup: Proline, Vipers, URA Through To Round Of 16

The second of Stanbic bank Uganda Cup returned today with Proline FC, Vipers and Uganda Revenue Authority football club (URA) all advancing to the next round of the competition.

Proline lost to Tororo-based side MYDA 3-1at King George IV memorial stadium in Tororo but because they had convincingly won 4-1 in the first leg at MTN Omondi stadium, Lugogo.

Ahmed Saleh scored in the 35th minute before Amos Kirya doubled the lead in the 48th minute and Isaac Osikou converted the penalty in the 97th minute following a foul by Proline goalkeeper.

Brian Umony scored the consolation for Proline and that was his second goal for the club having netted his first in the first leg against the same team.

Proline’s Richard Ajuna was given matching order by the referee in the 89th minute after a reckless challenge on Amos Kirya.

Proline conceded two penalties in a space of three minutes but custodian Nicholas Ssebwato saved one to keep the visitors in the lead and Proline progressed on a 5-4 aggregate.

Elsewhere, the venoms defeated Busoga United again in the second leg 2-1 at FUFA technical center, Njeru.

Yunus Ssentamu and Lawrence Tezikya scored for Vipers in the 24th and 85th minute respectively while Isaac Wagoina scored Busoga United’s only goal in the 65th minute.

Fred Kajoba’s side progressed on 5-1 aggregate having won 3-0 in the first leg at St Mary’s Kitende.

Meanwhile, URA edged Mbarara City FC 1-0 at Kakyeka stadium thanks to Brian Majwega’s 13th-minute goal.

Majwega missed a penalty when the hosts’ goalkeeper made a double save but the defense never came to his rescue until Majwega netted the rebound to help URA move to the round of 16 on 1-0 aggregate since the first leg in Luweero had ended in a goalless stalemate.

This was URA’s first-ever win against the Ankole Lions.

And finally, Maroons overcame Terrazo and Tiles FC 6-0 at Prisons Grounds to advance to the next stage on a 7-1 aggregate.

While Luweero United, the Onduparaka fixture was not played due to the heavy downpour that deemed the pitch at Kasana unplayable.
