The 2020/21 FUFA Women Super League officially got underway on Monday morning with the first game of the season pitting Uganda Martyrs High School against Makerere University in Group 1.

In a closely contested affair, Uganda Martyrs earned a hard-fought win thanks to Kevin Nakacwa’s goal from the spot in the second half.

The decisive moment came in the 70th minute when Stella Namisango fouled Anita Namata inside the box and referee Anna Akoyi pointed to the spot.

Nakacwa converted the resultant penalty and this eventually turned out to be the only goal of the game.

Uganda Martyrs started on the front foot making several inroads but they lacked effectiveness in the final third and most of their efforts were foiled by a resilient Makerere University backline.

As early as the 5th minute, Latifa Nakasi who was the top scorer last season with six goals had her effort sail over the goal area.

Catherine Nagadya and Spencer Nakacwa too came close but failed to find the target.

On the other hand, Makerere University too grows in confidence and had attempts at goal through Rebecca Nakasaato and Jemima Twesigye.

Makerere called for the first change ten minutes into the second half with Samali Nakamatte replacing Carol Anyango.

On the other hand, Uganda Martyrs too made changes bringing on Shamusa Najjuma, Esther Naluyimba and Brenda Munyana for Latifa Nakasi, Catherine Nagadya and Spencer Nakacwa in that order.

Uganda Martyrs High School will return to action on Tuesday against Kawempe Muslim Ladies while Makerere University will face Tooro Queens.
