Uganda Records Sharp Increase In COVID-19 Cases As Infections Rise To 507, With 82 Recoveries

Officials from the Ministry of Health have urged Ugandans to be more cautious after the country registered 18 cases of Coronavirus, raising the total number of cases to 507.

 The Ministry of Health revealed on Wednesday that results from samples tested on 02 June 2020 confirm 18 new COVID-19 cases. The total confirmed cases are now 507.”

They added that the new infections include; 4 truck drivers who arrived from South Sudan via Elegu  and 2 cases from Malaba, whereas 12 cases are alerts and contacts to previously confirmed cases.

Of the 12 cases from contacts and alerts; 8 are from Amuru, 3 are from Buikwe and 1 is from Kyotera districts.”

The Ministry  also revealed that 21 positive foreign truck drivers (13 Kenyans,3 Tanzanians,4 Eritreans and 1 Congolese) were handed to their respective countries of origin by the National COVID-19 Response Task Force.

Samples from Points of Entry tested on Tuesday were  774, while Samples from alerts and contacts were 312, out of Total samples of 1,086.

All Ugandans are required to wear face masks when in public, wash hands frequently with soap or use sanitizer, avoid crowded places and maintaining social distance, while companies, factories, markets, supermarkets and other facilities where people father in large numbers are advised  to strictly follow the Ministry of Health Standard Operation  Procedures (SoPs).
