Uganda-South Africa 5Day Meeting On Cooperation Kicks Off In Kampala

The Government of the Republic of Uganda is hosting the 2nd Session of the Joint Commission of Cooperation (JCC) with the Republic of South Africa from 7th – 12th July 2022 at the Serena Conference Centre in Kampala.

The main purpose of this Meeting is to strengthen the existing excellent and cordial bilateral relations and deepen cooperation between both countries.

Uganda and South Africa enjoy excellent fraternal relations and strong historical bonds of friendship & solidarity firmly anchored on the principle of Pan Africanism.

Diplomatic relations between both countries were established on 24th June, 1994.

The Bilateral relations between the two countries are mainly pursued through bilateral frameworks of Cooperation such the Joint Commission of Cooperation (JCC) Joint Trade Commission (JTC) which are hosted on a rotational basis between both countries. The Inaugural Session of the Joint Commission of Cooperation(JCC) was held in Pretoria from 8th – 9th November 2012.

The Key critical issues, this Joint Commission of Cooperation will address are;

1) Exploring new areas of cooperation between both countries

2) Regularize the different sector technical meetings of the Joint Commission of Cooperation.

3) Ensure the timely implementation of all areas that have been agreed upon through an effective coordination and implementation mechanism.

The Joint Commission of Cooperation will deliberate on enhancing bilateral cooperation between both countries in priority sector areas of;

1) Diplomatic and Political Consultations

2)Trade and Investment

3)Health

4)Transport

5)Agriculture

6)Education and Technical skills development

7)Immigration

8)Energy to mention but a few.

Hon. Gen Jeje Abubakhar Odongo the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda is leading Uganda’s delegation and Hon. Dr. Naledi Pandor, the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa is leading South Africa’s delegation.
