Uganda’s 1st Ever Procured COVID-19 Vaccine Arrives At Entebbe

Entebbe: As reported earlier today in our previous story, Uganda has finally received a total of 196,800 doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine procured with funding from the Government of Uganda.

The consignment arrived in the country at exactly 2200hrs via Entebbe Airport and was officially received by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr.DianaAtwine among other ministry officials and National Medical Store (NMS) staff headed by Executive Director Mr. Moses Kamabare.

The above consignment arrives when the country has administered at least 2,058,553 doses of COVID vaccines so far. Assuming every person needs 2 doses, that’s enough to have vaccinated about 2.3% of the country’s population.

According to last week reports, Uganda averaged about 29,633 doses administered each day. At that rate, it will take a further 299 days to administer enough doses for another 10% of the population.

Meanwhile, as we report this, Uganda is reporting 97 new infections on average each day, 3% of the peak — the highest daily average reported on August 18 2021. Also, there have been 124,254 infections and 3,170 coronavirus-related deaths reported in the country since the pandemic began.
