Uganda’s COVID-19 Cases Rise To 1075 As Global Tally Nears 15 Million

Kampala: The cumulative total confirmed cases of Ugandans are now 1,075 and 958 total recoveries after Ministry of health confirmed 3 new cases.

Among the new infections include one is a trucker driver who arrived from DRC via Bunagana boarder point while two are contacts and alerts from Namisindwa and Adjumani districts.

However Nine (9) foreign truck drivers (7 Kenyans and 2 Tanzanians) tested positive for COVID-19 at the border points of entry and their entry into the country was not permitted.

Samples from points of entry tested yesterday were 1,632 on addition of 466samples from alerts and contacts making 2,098 total samples tested the whole day while 252,127 is the total samples tested since the outbreak of the coronavirus in Uganda.

This comes when the death toll from the coronavirus infection in the world topped 615,754. Over 14.9 million cases were detected, and over 8.43 million of those patients were cured, according to Baltimore, Maryland’s Johns Hopkins University, which tracks and compiles data from national and local authorities, the media and other sources.

The total number of people who have been infected with COVID-19 globally is 14,906,602 according to Johns Hopkins University; 615,754 have died.

The United States still has the highest case count in the world, with 3,899,148; 141,992 have died in the US and 1,182,018 have recovered.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Brazil has increased by 41,008 to 2,159,654 within the past 24 hours, the country’s national Ministry of Health said on Tuesday.

WHO Executive Director Michael Ryan said on 17 July that the coronavirus curve had plateaued in Brazil and that the country, which is only surpassed by the US in terms of total cases and deaths, could now push the disease down.
