Uganda’s COVID-19 Cases Skyrocket To 522, Min. Of Health Urges Use Of Masks

The number of confirmed Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Uganda has shot to 522 according to recent updates from the Ministry of Health.

Information from the Ministry indicates that results from samples tested on June 03, 2020 confirmed 15 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 522. Among the new cases are 4 truck drivers who arrived from Tanzania via Mutukula, 2 truck drivers from Busia, while 9 are among alerts and contacts to previously confirmed cases.

The 9 cases from contacts and alerts are: 3 from Amuru, 2 from Kyotera, 1 from Buikwe, 1 from Nakaseke, 1 from Lira and 1 from Kampala districts.”

The Ministry of Health also revealed that, 33 positive foreign truck drivers were handed over to their country of origin on Wednesday and that Uganda remains with 82 total recoveries.

However, the Minister for Health Dr Jane Ruth Aceng has called upon all Ugandans to embrace the wearing of face masks as a way of preventing the spread of COVID-19.

“Always wear a face mask Face  or medical mask when in public. This should be coupled with regularly washing your hands with soap and water or using a hand sanitizer and maintaining a physical distance of at least 2 meter,” Dr Aceng said in a message she shared on social media on Wednesday.
