UJA President Kazibwe Survives Sleeping In Coolers Over Defamation Charges!

Buganda Road court grade one magistrate, Robert Mukanza has Tuesday released on bail the Uganda Journalist Association (UJA) president Kazibwe Bashir Mbaziira and three others who are battling defamation charges.

Kazibwe, together with the LC1 Chairperson of Kimwanyi Zone in Katanga, Kawempe Division Mr.Thomas Bagonza, Beatrice Nabwire Mukwaya, and Hassan Segawa are accused of defaming Pastor Daniel Walugembe who was allegedly threatening to evict residents from the land located in the above named locality.

It’s alleged that Kazibwe aired a story on Bukedde Fm radio which was defamatory in nature which prompted pastor Walugembe to institute a private case against the four which has however been taken over by the Director Of Public Prosecution (DPP).

In a fully packed court room, the accused, together with their sureties who included the Kawempe North Councillor Ssegirinya Muhammad have been bonded at four million shillings non-cash each.
The accused were ordered to deposit their National IDs and restrained from further discussing the matter until the case is heard and disposed of.

The case was adjourned to 28th March 2019 to enable the DPP study the file well.
