The Uganda Land Commission (ULC) is set to make a major stride in strengthening public land governance with the official launch of the Government Land Inventory System, a digital platform designed to track all government-owned land and detect encroachment.

The system will be officially unveiled on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala by the ULC Chairperson, Prof. Jack Pen-Mogi Nyeko, alongside a team of technical experts. The launch marks a significant milestone in government efforts to protect public land from illegal occupation, fraud, and misuse.

According to the Uganda Land Commission, the new inventory system will establish a comprehensive, accurate, and centralized database of all government land across the country. By leveraging digital technology, the platform is expected to enhance transparency in land administration, improve record-keeping, and strengthen monitoring and enforcement mechanisms.
ULC officials noted that for years, challenges such as land grabbing, encroachment, and weak documentation have hindered effective management of public land. The introduction of the digital inventory system is expected to provide real-time, reliable data to support government institutions, investigators, and policymakers in safeguarding public assets.
The launch event will bring together officials from key ministries, land management agencies, and other stakeholders, who will be briefed on the functionality of the system and its role in promoting accountability and efficiency in land governance.
The initiative underscores government’s renewed commitment to protecting public land and ensuring it is preserved and utilized strictly for its intended public purposes, in line with national development goals.
